Temple Square, Great Salt Lake, Captiol, Salt Lake City, Utah
Date: August, 9, 2014
It was my first time to Salt Lake City and I was in the area on a business trip for a few days. The weather was amazing and the mountains surrounding SLC were so picturesque. When I had booked my ticket, I had naively thought ‘of course I’ll go to Bryce Canyon or Zion national park!’, only to gawk at the distance and quickly discard the plan once I actually mapped out my stay.
Temple Square was immediately adjacent to where I was staying, so I visited the site with the cutouts on my last day. As a quick intro, Temple Square is the HQ of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or what we more commonly know as the Mormon Church. I’ve seen some videos of the famous Tabernacle Choir and the massive Tabernacle Organ, but other than that I wasn’t really sure what to expect of the massive buildings. I took some pictures of the beautiful flower garden and then strolled into the main building. And then was immediately halted. Turns out you can’t just waltz your way in but have to be guided as a group by certain members of the church.
The tour was very long and informative and I was running short on time, so I parted with my group at the roof garden, snapped some last-minute pictures, and had to hurry off to my hotel to pack and leave. The architecture and sheer size of the complex are extremely impressive. I can’t imagine how bustling the church buildings would become on days people filled in.
Other than Temple Square there are some pictures of Utah state capitol building. I also took a quick drive out to the Great Salt Lake before leaving, which turned out to be a good decision as the lake was so beautiful! I didn’t see anyone floating around in the lake, btw.
I think Salt Lake City is a great place to visit. You can walk around and check out really cute places. The city isn’t small and rather has a really good mid-sized city vibe. There are tons of places to stay, dine, and explore.
