Monterey Bay / Pacific Grove, California
March 6, 2014
Monterey Bay is the ultimate retirement goal! Every single visit is a renewed awe and greater admiration of the area. It’s really paradise on earth. The Monterey Aquarium is a magnificent place to visit (we were lucky to see the original ocean starfish in 2014, which perished soon after..) with kids or with adults, as it provides great education about sea animals. Read about their current Sunfish here
There’s also a walk path along the shoreline where you can sit and reflect on life, or walk around to watch sea lions sunbathing on a closed beach. The waters are rough and the waves crush into the rocks violently creating a delicious foaming trail.
The first few trips were just the cutouts (the very first trip was Chewie’s cutout alone – I had misplaced Dante’s cutout), and the latest trip in February 2020 was an actual trip with the birdies. The wind was too strong, and none of the birds were allowing a harness near them, so they ended up sitting in their bags, in the car, or coming out in their bags for brief periods fo time to soak up the beautiful scenery.

PS: The Feb, 2020 shots all look pretty similar. It’s difficult to get all three birds to pay attention at the same time. I’ve sorted out some shots where at least 2 of the 3 birds are looking towards the camera.
