Woohoo, LA!
Hey, we live here. So there are more actual bird outing photos than the cutouts. Documenting moments in your current city is not as easy as it sounds – we tend to take all things LA for granted. Over the years there have been moments where we’ve captured the birds on camera, but unfortunately, it’s more often we decide not to offend the birds with constantly taking pictures of them. The touristy pictures are limited to some popular spots, and the mundane hikes and other activities will be documented in detail on Instagram stories and posts.
The Donut Man, Glendora
January 11, 2014
Donut Man is our favorite donut shop in LA! So much so that we’ll drive out over an hour to get to the famous donuts.
Donut man is a small, shack-like store that always has a long line of people wrapping around the order window. The store is open 24hrs, so you can visit whenever you have sweet cravings! They have a great range of donuts (we recommend the signature donuts with chunks of season fruit in them, the tiger tail, the creamcheese+fruit ones, and the donuts that have cream and or fruit jelly filling in them), and the prices are very reasonable. They only take cash, so make sure to show up with cash on hand.
Pasadena-Victory Park Farmer’s Market, Post-parade showcase
January 2, 2015
If New York has Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the New Year’s ball drop, Pasadena has the Tournament of the Roses (or simply, Rose Parade) that opens up the morning of every new year. Multiple floats line up after each other, showcasing state-of-the-art floats, where every inch of the float is covered with flowers and other natural materials. Up close, these floats are truly a sight to behold.
If you are in LA during this time, you can actually head out to Pasadena and spend some time to experience the floats in person. They are gorgeous and the TV screen does them no justice! Since the floats are made of organic material, it’s best to go visit them shortly after the parade is over. We went a day later and some parts of floats were already starting to collapse.
Point Vicente, Rancho Palos Verdes
Various Dates
Point Vicente is a DREAM! As you drive down the windy roads, you’ll immediately notice the beautiful Pacific ocean coastlines of South Bay. The birds (and the dog) come here often because their vet sits atop a nice hill that looks directly out to the ocean in Point Vicente. There is a famous Pelican Cove Park, where you can easily spot wild pelicans in flight.
Griffith Observatory, Hollywood Sign, DTLA view
November 17, 2019
What’s an LA post without the famous Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory? 🙂 We hiked up to the observatory (omg, it was hard with the birds carriers) to show the birbs the sign and a view of DTLA.
I still dream of Dante becoming a famous Hollywood birb actor, where he sits on Katy Perry’s (or really, any celebrity’s) shoulder in a music video. Any talent agents out there seeking a borb?? 😉
Beverly Hills, CA
November 25, 2019
Also, what’s an LA post without mentioning 90210? 🙂 🙂 Beverly Hills is more of Birbdad’s stomping grounds. We decided to tag along one day and Baby got most of the shots because she was harnessed. We couldn’t go far from the car because I was having a hard time juggling three birds by myself. Most of the pictures are Baby peeved at the harness and trying to bite into it.. :/
